Although not a newcomer to the wine
industry, it was only in 2002 that Pat Busch
and his family started making handmade red
wines in their vintage wine cellar outside
Robertson in the Western Cape.
In 2001 Pat Busch converted and restored
some old outbuildings and the “Rusticus”
Vintage Wine Cellar was born. The Busch
family restored antique wine making
equipment and machinery in an attempt at
making wines the traditional way, with
minimum involvement from modern technology.
More recently, Pat Busch’s youngest son
Stephan Busch has taken over the wine making
and management of the Rusticus Vintage
Cellar and looks forward to producing
outstanding quality from this boutique
winery.
Visitors to the cellar can literally ‘step
back in time’ when enjoying a cellar tour at
Rusticus, whilst the host explains how the
various pumps and antique equipment are used
in the process.
The name ‘RUSTICUS’ is a latin word meaning
“of” or “belonging to the land”. This
ancient translation embodies our inspiration
and philosophy to handcraft fine natural
wines following traditional methods.
