Rusticus Artisan Wines - Handcraft fine natural wines

Rusticus Wines | Handmade wines by the Busch family

Rusticus Wines : About Rusticus

The name ‘RUSTICUS’ is a latin word meaning “of” or “belonging to the land”.

This ancient translation embodies our inspiration and philosophy to handcraft fine natural wines following traditional methods.

Although not a newcomer to the wine industry, it was only in 2002 that Pat Busch and his family started making hand-made wines in their vintage wine cellar outside Robertson in the Western Cape of South Africa. Stephan Busch took over the wine making and management of this small boutique cellar from his father, Pat, in 2005.

Still very much made in the same tradition, Stephan continues to make wine with the vintage equipment and employs a minimalistic approach, attempting to best present his unique terroir at the foothills of Klaasvoogds West, outside Robertson.

The range has been expanded to now include a white wine, a Viognier, which has been well received by fans and wine writers alike.

We pride ourselves on the fact that our small artisan cellar
releases original, terroir driven wines which are vinified
with vintage machinery by traditional methods.”

Visitors to the cellar can literally ‘step back in time’ when enjoying a cellar tour at Rusticus, seated amongst antique wine making equipment and machinery. This quaint cellar is also available for functions with winemaker Stephan Busch preparing delicious gourmet meals for groups of 10 or more people.
